This weekend we saw Patrick Stewart in a production of Macbeth at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. It was a great show, and not just because of Patrick Stewart (who was of course excellent). The production itself was quiet unique, placed in a sort of Post-WWII Communist Russia, with a very stark stage and effective use of the lighting, projectors and the theater sound system to evoke all the creepy, supernatural elements of the play. It was a great experience.

Amy and I had a lazy Sunday involving a late sleep, a trip to the mall, Stardust (the movie), and some Rock Band.

I forgive you, Sam. Just please learn from this. Spider-man doesn't need another movie and if he does for whatever reason, please hang up your hat and hand it over to someone else. You had a good run, but you obviously moved on well before finishing this iteration.

Since most of you probably don't know, I've been watching a lot of Smallville. I can't decide if my manhood is totally castrated for watching a WB show or wholly redeemed because of the awesome mythology.

And trust me when I say their take on the Superman mythology is great. If you can get past the first season (which is really just a continuous stream of freaks-o-the-week), you start getting into the serious shit in Season 2. By Season 3, everything is dark and nasty and scary and cool. Despite the bopper-pop-rock that always play before the credits.

I had this really bizarre and disturbing dream last night.

Essentially, I'd talked myself into going to this medical clinic. In this clinic they did some pretty basic things: give a physical, draw blood, and so forth. Afterwards, they euthanized. I went through all the various steps of the exam, and then I was taken to a waiting room, where I would wait patiently until called for my lethal injection.

Now, I knew what this clinic was all about. It was no secret. I came here for the same reason everyone else did--to die. Apparently I'd decided this was something I needed to do. But in the waiting room, I began to waver. I wasn't afraid, exactly; I was more concerned about the afterlife. I wanted to know where my consciousness would go. Would I remain a bodiless, self-aware entity, unable to affect the physical world? Would I be absorbed into some greater cosmic reality? Or would I cease and join the void, ultimately to forget and be forgotten. I didn't like my lack of answers, so I left.

Everyone knew what I'd done. It wasn't disallowed, to re neg on the ultimate decision. But it was highly frowned upon. As I walked through the corridors of this pristine medical facility, I knew I was being judged by doctors, nurses, and even patients. They were judging me for backing out of the final step. They criticized me for not wanting to die.

At this point the dream melted into something else. I vaguely remember roadtripping to Philadelphia on a schoolbus. But I'm fairly certain that's unrelated to the main dream.

I consider myself a simple person. But I'm pretty sure a psychoanalyst would have a field day with my subconscious.
